October 2026: The Art and Practice of Intentional Co-Teaming

CE Hours: 4
Instructors: Joshua Irvine, MA, LPC, Adam Boguski, MDiv

A Live, Interactive Webconference

Friday, October 23, 2026, FBMHS Training Groups via Live Interactive Zoom
8:25am-12:40pm

Putting two therapists in the same room does not create a team. Effective co-therapy requires something more intentional: two clinicians learning to see together, think together, regulate together, and use their differences in the service of the family.

This experiential didactic explores the art and practice of becoming a therapeutic team within ESFT. Participants will examine how shared purpose, trust, flexible complementarity, role differentiation, and intentional use of the Team of Three can transform co-therapy from two clinicians working in parallel into an integrated clinical system. Through teaching, dialogue, video, and experiential practice, participants will develop concrete strategies for turning toward one another before, during, and after sessions—learning not simply to divide the work, but to multiply what becomes possible in the room.

The goal of co-teaming is not to become more alike. It is to become more usable to one another.

Objectives

As a result of attending this training, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe co-teaming and its clinical value within ESFT.
  2. Identify therapeutic uses of complementary differences in therapist style, strengths, perspective, and role.
  3. Describe how to apply practical co-teaming strategies before, during, and after sessions.
  4. Identify how to use the Team of Three—therapists and supervisor—for expanding perspective, managing induction, strengthening team functioning, and improving treatment.

This is an intermediate level course. The target audience is behavioral health professionals working within Pennsylvania’s Family Based program and North Carolina’s Intensive In-Home Program. This is a live synchronous distance learning activity conducted in real time, allowing for simultaneous participation of participants and instructors from different locations.
