Effective co-teaming involves much more than assigning two therapists to work with the same family. It requires developing a collaborative relationship in which therapists expand one another’s clinical thinking, increase their flexibility, and use their differences as therapeutic resources. Yet these capacities rarely develop on their own.

This workshop explores the critical role supervisors play in fostering intentional co-teaming in FBMHS. Drawing on concepts of relational collaboration, differentiation, mutual influence, and clinical coordination, supervisors will examine how supervision can help therapists move beyond simply dividing responsibilities toward becoming more effective therapeutic partners. Particular attention will be given to recognizing patterns that constrain collaboration, creating opportunities for shared reflection and deliberate practice, and using supervision to strengthen the therapeutic team’s capacity to facilitate change in families.

Objectives:
As a result of attending this educational activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify three characteristics that distinguish effective clinical collaboration from task-oriented cooperation.

  2. Describe two supervisory strategies for strengthening collaboration and flexibility within therapist teams.

  3. Demonstrate a supervisory intervention that helps therapists recognize and change patterns that interfere with effective co-teaming.

This is an intermediate level course. The target audience is behavioral health supervisors working within Pennsylvania’s Family Based program. This is a live synchronous distance learning activity conducted in real time, allowing for simultaneous participation of participants and instructors from different locations.
