Cultivating collaborative teams is at the heart of the ESFT approach to intensive in-home treatment serving youth with serious emotional problems and their multi-stressed families. Not only do therapists work as co-therapists, but they also cultivate collaborative partnerships with caregivers, the child, and other professionals in the child’s eco-system. This workshop focuses primarily on the co-therapy team. At times, teaming can be one of the most personally challenging components of family-based treatment. And the value-added benefits of using the team to enhance treatment are often overlooked. This workshop explains the benefits of working in co-therapy teams in home-based treatment and identifies the features of successful, well-functioning teams.  Particular attention is given to the skills, attitudes, and stages associated with the development of a team. Strategies are described and demonstrated via videotape for utilizing co-therapy teams to maximize the potency of family treatment.
